  • Google's 30-Day Trade-In Time Starts When New Phone Is Received

9 days ago - By Android Headlines

For those planning on ordering a Google Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL (and especially for those who have already pre-ordered), it seems as though there was some confusion around the details of the newly-launched trade-in program. Specifically around how long you have to trade in a device. The issue stemmed from the language used by Google in its T&Cs where it states a trade-in value suggested by Google is only good for 30 days from the time the trade-in value is first suggested/agreed. So for example if you agree to a trade-in value with Google today then you only have 30 days from today's date to...

  • Pretend you have a Pixel 2 by downloading the new Pixel 2 launcher

Pretend you have a Pixel 2 by downloading the new Pixel 2 launcher

9 days ago - By TheBoyGeniusReport

You don't have a Pixel 2 right now, because the release date isn't until next Thursday, October 19th. But with 30 seconds of work and an Android phone, you can pretend like you've got Google's newest flagship, thanks to the release of the Pixel 2 default launcher.
The app, which you can download from an unofficial mirror here , is the new default launcher for the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. The biggest change is a Google Search bar at the bottom of the screen, and a new Glance widget. Otherwise, it's virtually identical to the old Pixel launcher. Either way, it's almost certainly better than...

  • Google cuts USB-C headphone adapter to Apple price

Google cuts USB-C headphone adapter to Apple price

9 days ago - By SlashGear

Google's gone to war with Apple with a single accessory, one dongle that connects the past to the future: the headphone jack adapter. This dongle connects to the Pixel 2's USB-C port on one end, and a standard 3.5mm headphone plug on the other. Google's just reduced the price of this dongle from $20 down to $9. This might not...

Google drops price of its USB-C to headphone jack dongle down to $9 from $20

9 days ago - By The Verge

Google released a new USB-C to 3.5mm dongle following the reveal earlier this month of the headphone jack-less Pixel 2. Although every new Pixel 2 ships with the dongle in the box, a replacement costs $20. That's appalling. Now, it seems Google has realized its dongle error and is dropping the price down to $9, or the same as Apple's Lighting to headphone jack replacement dongle. All is well again in dongle world, phew.
Just a note: Google's dongle isn't for charging and listening to music. If you want to do that, you'll have to buy a much more expensive dongle. Google currently only lists...

    Google's $20 USB-C to 3.5mm headphone adapter is now $9

    THANK YOU
When Google announced the Pixel 2 on October 4, one of the biggest complaints that fans and customers had was with the company's decision to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack. Google is one of many companies making the push to Bluetooth and USB Type-C audio solutions, and in an effort to make the transition a bit smoother, Google includes a USB-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter in the box with every Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.
Although adapters/dongles are never preferable, this is still appreciated on Google's part. However, as anyone that uses phones, laptops, or other gadgets that...

IPhone X, Galaxy Note 8, or Pixel 2: Which phone wins the bezel wars?

9 days ago - By TheBoyGeniusReport

Ever since the original iPhone changed the game in the mobile business, handset makers have tried to offer buyers bigger smartphones, larger screens, and tinier bezels.
Thus, the battle of the bezels isn't new, and some smartphone makers used the screen-to-body ratio as a selling point for a few years now. But 2017 will be remembered as the year of the all-screen smartphone design.
So who's got the smallest, best-looking bezels of them all?

Legendary phone reviewer explains why the Pixel 2 and iPhone 8's camera scores are flawed

9 days ago - By TheBoyGeniusReport

We've seen a barrage of DxOMark camera reviews in the past few weeks, as several high-end smartphones came out, all of them sporting top-of-the-line camera experience. First, the camera pros declared the iPhone 8 Plus to be the best smartphone camera they ever tested. Its score was tied by the Galaxy Note 8 quick after that. Then came the Pixel 2 which took the top spot, according to DxOMark's ranking system.
The problem with assigning scores to camera performance is that it's not an entirely objective endeavor. While you can measure some camera characteristics with precision, there are...

Earlier today, we showed you how to install the Pixel 2 launcher on certain Android phones. Now, it's the Pixel 2 camera app that can be downloaded on your Nexus or OG Pixel handsets. Keep in mind that some of the features won't work on anything but the Pixel 2 and Google Clips. We are talking about Motion Photos and the AR stickers. In plain English we are talking about the differences between the 4.4 build of Google Camera now available in the Play Store, and version 5.1 that you can install using an APK. (There also is a version 5.0 that does include Motion Photos ...
